And what would that be? Laid back. Not fussy. Simple. Fun. And since we’re paying for this shindig ourselves, somewhat economical, although he insists that we have the rest of our lives to pay for it.

I’m the one who sees coming under budget as a worthy adversary. My guts kinda clench sometimes when I think about how much this wedding could cost, and then realize that, between the two of us, it’ll never come to that.

I’m convinced, however, that we can throw a wedding that’s part common sense, part do-it-yourself, part necessary expense, and all us. And I can’t wait.

Our wedding date? June 5, 2010. Why? Because his mom and dad’s 40th wedding anniversary will be the day after, and we’d love to be able to have all that celebrating going on. It’s just a good omen, you know? We’ll have a brunch for them on that Sunday, before we leave for the honeymoon.

We’re still waiting to secure our location (later I’ll blog about the one that we let get away on purpose), mostly because you can’t book Winfrey Point more than a year out – which means we’ll be calling from our vacation in Virginia at exactly 8:15 a.m. CST June 1 to get this place. Both of us. At the same time. So keep your fingers crossed.

Things we do have done?

Catering – by Celebration. Simple, home cooked, unfussy fare that will appeal to pretty much everyone. Wine, beer, lemonade and iced tea to drink.

Party Favors – decided on, but not yet concocted. These adorable cootie catchers, and seed packets containing flower seeds that correspond with our wedding colors.

Wedding Cake: White cupcakes decorated with flowers in lieu of a wedding cake. The groom’s cake is a complete surprise.

Wedding dress: Found on a complete random lark, loved it. It’s hidden somewhere in the house.

Wedding party: Mine is already picked and alerted. His? I think so. Not sure.

Honeymoon: New Englandish, starting in Boston and ending up in New York.

As things progress, I’ll blog more about who will be in the wedding, my interactions with vendors, various and assorted frustrations and various and assorted triumphs.
